Creating seasonal cards can be both fun and versatile, and this set of three handmade cards showcases how you can capture the essence of Halloween, Christmas, and fall all in one creative project. Using the Cuckoo Cottage Collection from Spellbinders, I combined simple ink blending with intricate die cuts to create dimensional, storybook-style scenes. For each card, I masked off the bottom portion of my panel with masking tape to achieve a clean horizon line, then blended Distress Oxide inks in Barn Door, Villainous Potion, and Wild Honey for vibrant seasonal backgrounds. Each design incorporates a unique theme while keeping the overall style cohesive.
Card 1: “Spooky Little Friends” – Halloween Card
Creating the Haunted Background
For this card, I focused on crafting a spooky yet playful vibe. After taping off the lower portion of the panel, I blended Villainous Potion Distress Oxide ink to create a bold, eerie purple glow. The smooth transition between the white base and rich purple made the perfect backdrop for the haunted theme. A subtle fade at the edges helps draw attention to the center scene where the characters come alive.
Die-Cutting and Coloring the Elements
Using the Halloween Tick Tock Etched Dies from the Cuckoo Cottage Collection, I cut out all the tiny details—the black cat, mummy, ghosties, spider, and skull. I used a mix of black and white cardstock for contrast and lightly added gray shadows to the ghost die-cuts with ink for dimension. The spider hangs playfully from the top of the cardbase to create a little movement.
Assembling the Scene
Once my die-cuts were ready, the characters were arranged thoughtfully- placing the cat slightly offset and the ghosts floating above for balance. I used foam tape for some elements, giving the design a layered, dimensional effect that adds life to the composition.
Finishing Touches
To complete the card, I stamped a small “Happy Halloween” sentiment in crisp black ink at the bottom right corner. The simple typography ensures the spooky scene remains the main focus, while the clean design ties together perfectly for a fun seasonal greeting.
Card 2: “Snowy Holiday Cheer” – Christmas Card
Crafting the Winter Glow
For the holiday card, I masked off the lower portion and softly blended Barn Door Distress Oxide ink to create a warm, festive background. The vivid red works beautifully against crisp white cardstock and immediately evokes holiday cheer. To enhance the cozy atmosphere, I kept the fade soft and airy toward the edges.
Die-Cutting the Festive Elements
Using the Chiming Christmas Etched Dies from the Cuckoo Cottage Collection, I cut out the adorable snowman, candy cane pole, reindeer, and tree. I used colored cardstock for some pieces and inked others with Distress Oxides to add variation and subtle shading. For example, the snowman was layered with white, black, and orange cardstock, while the candy cane pole was striped red and white for a classic Christmas look.
Designing the Holiday Scene
I arranged the festive characters into a tiny winter vignette, adhering the candy cane pole along the left side to balance the composition. The snowman and tree were slightly overlapped to create depth, with the reindeer standing on the side. To bring them to life, I used a combination of liquid glue for flat layers and foam tape for raised accents.
Final Details
The sentiment “Happy Holidays” was stamped cleanly at the bottom of the panel in black ink. I paired the finished card with a deep red envelope , which perfectly complements the ink-blended background and ties the festive palette together for a cheerful, modern holiday card.
Card 3: “Autumn Woodland Greetings” – Fall Card
Building the Autumn Sky
For this cozy fall card, I taped off the bottom and blended Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink across the top of the panel. The warm golden tones create the perfect autumn glow, giving the impression of a crisp, sunny afternoon in the woods. The soft halo effect frames the die-cuts beautifully and sets the tone for a serene woodland theme.
Die-Cutting and Coloring the Woodland Scene
I used the Harvest Time Etched Dies from the Cuckoo Cottage Collection to create the charming squirrel, leaves, branches, and tiny mushrooms details. The leaves were cut from inked cardstock in vibrant fall hues, while I inked some additional pieces with Distress Oxides for a natural, blended effect. The squirrel was crafted from neutral brown tones with a touch of shading for realism.
Arranging the Focal Point
I placed the squirrel on a tree branch toward the upper right area, balancing the composition with cascading leaves below. A few scattered mushrooms add pops of red for visual interest. Using foam tape beneath select leaves creates a layered, dimensional look while still keeping the design simple and elegant.
Completing the Card
To finish, I stamped the sentiment “Hope You Are Having a Great Day!” along the lower portion in bold black ink. The card was paired with a golden-yellow envelope m, which enhances the warm tones of the leaves and highlights the cheerful autumn vibe.
Final Thoughts
This set of three seasonal cards perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween, Christmas, and Fall using the Cuckoo Cottage Collection from Spellbinders. By combining simple ink-blended backgrounds with carefully arranged die-cuts, I was able to create cohesive designs that celebrate each season uniquely. Whether it’s spooky fun, festive cheer, or cozy woodland greetings, these cards are sure to bring a smile to anyone who receives them.

Jyoti
