The holidays are the perfect time to share a little warmth and joy through handmade cards, and today I’m excited to share a card I created with beautiful products from Poppystamps. This design combines traditional winter motifs with a pop of cheerful color, bringing together a cozy seasonal feel that’s sure to brighten anyone’s day.
Creating the Nordic Snowflake Background
For the background, I reached for the Nordic Snowflake Border die. This intricate design is both elegant and festive, instantly transforming plain cardstock into a winter wonderland. I die-cut the borders in white and layered them over sparkling glitter cardstock so that the snowflakes would shine through. The glitter peeking out adds just the right amount of shimmer while keeping the look crisp and wintry.
Building the Tag Focal Point
To anchor the design, I used the Scallop Pinpoint Tags die set. I cut the second largest tag from a piece of vellum and framed it with a bright blue scalloped edge. This tag provides the perfect spot to highlight the focal elements, and the contrast of the cool blue against the white background really makes it stand out.
Adding the Cardinal
Nothing says winter quite like a cardinal perched against a snowy backdrop. I die-cut the Nordic Perched Cardinal from red cardstock, adding a touch of black and orange to bring the bird to life. Its vibrant color adds warmth and character, perfectly complementing the soft winter tones of the rest of the card. I placed the cardinal toward the top of the tag, making it look as if it’s resting peacefully in the wintry scene.
Finishing with a Sentiment
To complete the design, I chose the Warm Wishes Cheerful Script die for the sentiment. I cut it from the same bright blue cardstock used on the tag border, tying all the elements together. The playful script style balances the geometric snowflakes beautifully, adding a welcoming and heartfelt touch.
Final Touches
Once the tag was finished, I adhered it to the snowflake background with foam tape for a bit of dimension. A tiny glittered accent at the top of the tag brings in extra sparkle, while the bold red envelope provides the perfect finishing detail. The result is a card full of Nordic charm, cozy warmth, and plenty of holiday spirit.
