Today, I’m sharing a set of five projects I created using Bibi’s Musical Notes Collection from Spellbinders, and let me tell you, this collection is pure harmony for any cardmaker who loves blending elegance, texture, and a bit of rhythm in their designs.
For these cards, I combined various dies including the Majestic Guitar Etched Dies, Mini Musical Instruments, Musical Notes and Stave Pop-Up Die, Majestic Guitar Box Side Panel Die, Mini Guitar Etched Die, and the Musical Notes 3D Embossing Folder, along with the Family Musical Mixed Greetings Clear Stamp Set for sentiments.
Each background panel was embossed and lightly sprayed with Distress Oxide Stains, giving them a subtle shimmer that complements the golden accents and instrument details beautifully.
Card 1: This Note is for You
Creating the Background:
I started with a soft blue cardstock and embossed it using the Musical Notes 3D Embossing Folder. The raised musical symbols instantly gave the card a lively texture. To add more character, I lightly misted the panel with Distress Oxide Stain sprays, which created a gentle sheen and brought depth to the surface.
Building the Focal Point:
The Mini Guitar Etched Die became the star of this card. I cut the guitar body from a rich coral-orange cardstock and layered it with black and gold accents for a classic, warm-toned finish. The strings were delicately placed to give a realistic look, while the contrast between the glossy and matte textures added dimension.
Floral Touches:
To soften the musical theme, I tucked in a few die-cut flowers and leaves around the guitar. The flowers were kept in soft whites with gold centers, and the leaves added a touch of elegance that tied the composition together.
Finishing Details:
I heat embossed the sentiment “This note is for you” in white on black cardstock and added it right beside the guitar. The sentiment’s simplicity perfectly balanced the detailed textures of the card.
Card 2: A Little Happy Note
Textured Background:
For this card, I used a warm peach panel embossed with the same Musical Notes 3D Embossing Folder. Once again, the Distress Oxide Stain sprays gave the background a glimmering finish, creating an almost stage-light effect.
Musical Ensemble:
This time, I combined several pieces from the Mini Musical Instruments Die Set ; including a trumpet, saxophone, and retro-style microphone – all cut from metallic gold cardstock. These shimmering pieces were arranged above a die-cut piano keyboard made from black and white cardstock.
Composition and Layers:
To give the look of an orchestra in action, I layered the instruments at slight angles. Some were adhered flat, while others were raised with foam tape for added depth. A few scattered black musical notes tied the upper and lower halves together.
Sentiment Strip:
The message “A little happy note to say thank you” fit perfectly with the playful energy of the design. It was placed right over the keyboard for a grounded, symmetrical finish.
Card 3: Never Too Old to Rock and Roll
Rocking Background:
The soft peach background for this card was embossed with musical notes, just like the previous designs, and then sprayed with Distress Oxide Stains for that subtle, grungy shimmer – perfect for a rock-inspired card. This card is a 5 by 7 inches in dimensions.
The Majestic Guitar:
The showstopper here is the large guitar made using the Majestic Guitar Etched Dies. I cut the guitar body from bold orange cardstock and layered it with intricate gold scrollwork on the base. The strings were cut from gold metallic cardstock and carefully adhered across the fretboard.
Musical Flow:
Behind the guitar, I added the Musical Notes and Stave Die cut in a soft blue shade to give a sense of motion – almost as if the music was flowing right off the guitar.
Final Details:
The sentiment “Never too old to rock and roll” felt like the perfect finishing touch for this energetic design. The contrast of white text on black cardstock gave a crisp and modern edge to the layout.
Card 4: A Note from the Heart
Creating the Surprise Inside:
This card might look simple on the outside, but it holds a surprise inside! The outer design features a soft minty background embossed with the Musical Notes 3D Folder, misted with Distress Oxide sprays for that beautiful shimmer.
Front Design:
The piano keyboard die takes center stage again, paired with delicate blue flowers and gold leaves dancing along the stave. The sentiment “Happy Birthday” was placed below the keyboard for a balanced and cheerful front.
The Pop-Up Interior:
When the card opens, a spiral of musical notes and treble clefs springs up! This was created using the Musical Notes and Stave Pop-Up Die, cut from light mint cardstock with added black note accents. It gives the illusion of music floating in the air – a magical touch for any birthday.
Finishing Touches:
This pop-up feature makes the card a keepsake – both elegant and full of movement. It’s one of those designs that never fails to get a “wow” reaction.
Card 5: Acoustic Elegance
Base and Texture:
For this standalone guitar piece, I focused on showcasing the intricate detailing of the Majestic Guitar Die. The body was cut from vibrant orange cardstock, with the scroll pattern die-cut from metallic gold for a refined, decorative look.
Design Details:
The layered fretboard, gold strings, and tiny brown tuning knobs made the piece look astonishingly realistic. I used subtle shading with distress ink around the edges to bring depth and highlight the contours.
Versatility:
Though shown here as a standalone piece, this design can be used as a card front, a tag for a musician’s gift, or even as an embellishment on a shadow box frame.
Elegant Simplicity:
Sometimes, a single detailed die-cut says it all. The craftsmanship of this guitar design shines through, capturing the beauty of handmade artistry in its purest form.
Final Thoughts
Bibi’s Musical Notes Collection truly strikes a chord with every crafter who loves storytelling through paper. Each of these cards carries rhythm, movement, and a touch of personality – from a heartfelt note to a rocking birthday surprise.
The combination of embossed backgrounds, metallic highlights, and clever die layering turned these projects into a harmonious celebration of creativity.

Jyoti
