As the season turns and birds begin their migrations, I find myself noticing colorful visitors and wondering where they have traveled from. That inspired this trio of holiday cards, each with its own bright bird and festive message. I combined Poppystamps bird dies from different releases with leafy branches, Spellbinders arches, and Memory Box sentiments. The birds may be small, but together they bring plenty of cheer to each card.
1. A Peaceful Perch
Building the Bird
I assembled the orange, yellow, and white bird from layered die cuts. Its patterned wing and feathered body add detail, while the bright colors make it stand out against the quiet background.
Adding a Place to Rest
I placed the bird above a leafy green branch that stretches across the lower part of the card. A second sprig rises beside it, making the scene feel like a little resting place along a bird’s journey.
Keeping the Layout Airy
The soft golden panel beneath the branch grounds the design, while the open white space above leaves room for the bird to shine. A thin twine bow adds a natural touch without making the card feel crowded.
Sending Peace
I finished with the Memory Box “Peace on Earth” sentiment. Its message, paired with the calm scene, gives the card a gentle holiday feeling.
2. A Joyful Pair
Bringing Two Birds Together
For the second card, I used two colorful birds facing one another on a branch. Turquoise, navy, orange, and yellow give them individual character while helping the pair feel connected.
Framing the Birds
A Spellbinders arch frames the scene and draws attention to the birds. Its simple shape gives them a cozy focal area against the clean white card.
Adding the Branch
I tucked green leaves along the branch beneath the birds. This line links the pair and keeps the composition balanced within the arch.
Sharing the Cheer
The Memory Box “Joy to the World” sentiment completes the design. The birds’ lively colors and the joyful message make this card feel especially celebratory.
3. Let Nature Sing
Choosing a Colorful Focal Point
This bird combines turquoise, coral orange, and deep navy. I layered its pieces to highlight the patterned wing and long tail, creating a bold focal point.
Creating the Arch
I used a warm kraft-colored circle frame to surround the bird. Its decorative edge adds texture and contrasts nicely with the bird’s bright colors.
Layering the Background
A pale aqua panel and a strip of alphabet-patterned paper add interest behind the arch. I finished the paper strip with a torn white edge for a softer transition.
Finishing with a Song
I added leafy branches near the bottom and the Memory Box “Let Heaven and Nature Sing” sentiment. The words bring the bird and greenery together in a festive final detail.
Each card began with the sight of migrating birds and grew into its own small holiday scene. I enjoyed mixing the Poppystamps bird dies and bright cardstock colors with branches, patterned paper, and arch-shaped frames. These little birds carry three different messages of peace, joy, and song and, I hope, a little big cheer for the season.
Hugs,
Jyoti
