I’m thrilled to be back today as a guest designer, for Papertrey Ink sharing two cards made with the breathtaking Into the Blooms: Anemone die set. This die set has completely won me over—the flowers come together so beautifully and have such a realistic, dimensional feel. Two blooms are all it takes to fill an A2 card front, making it easy to create a striking floral focal point. I had so much fun exploring color in these cards and can already tell I’ll be making more in different palettes soon!
Card 1: Deep Purple Anemones on a Moody Background
Inking the Petals for Depth
For my first card, I wanted to bring out the drama in the anemones by going with a deep, rich purple. I die-cut the petals from purple cardstock, then added shading at the base of each petal using Villainous Potion Distress Oxide ink. This little touch made a big difference—it deepened the centers and gave the petals a more lifelike quality.
Lively Green Leaves with Added Texture
The leaves were die-cut from lime green cardstock. To give them more dimension and realism, I ink-blended the base of each leaf with Forest Moss Distress Oxide ink. I then gave them a quick spritz of water and blotted them with a clean paper towel, which added a lovely mottled texture that reminds me of natural foliage.
A Moody Navy Background and Embossed Sentiment
For the background, I trimmed a panel of navy blue cardstock slightly smaller than an A2 card, leaving a thin white border once mounted. To draw the eye to the center, I ink-blended Black Soot Distress Oxide ink into the middle of the panel, fading it outward. I heat embossed the sentiment in white at the bottom of this panel using clear sticky ink—it really pops against the dark background. The sentiment suggests a Mother’s Day Card.
Assembling the Floral Cluster
With the flowers and leaves ready, I built a full floral cluster directly above the sentiment, letting the rich purple petals take center stage. To finish the card, I added a few flat back pearls for some subtle shine and softness. The contrast between the deep florals and dark background really makes this one feel elegant and dramatic.
Card 2: Pale Pink Anemones with Gentle Color Play
A Soft Anemone with Green and Coral Details
For my second card, I went in a completely different direction with the color scheme—pale pink anemones inspired by the delicate real-life blooms that sometimes have a touch of green at the base. I began by ink-blending Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink onto the bottom of each petal to mimic that natural tint. Then I gently swiped Abandoned Coral along the edges of the petals to add just a hint of darker pink—this subtle gradient brought the flowers to life.
Recreating the Same Background with a Twist
Just like the first card, I used a navy blue panel trimmed to leave a thin white border. I repeated the Black Soot ink blending in the center but took it one step further this time—splattering some diluted white gouache all across the panel. The effect was magical. The splatters looked like tiny flecks of light or snow falling behind the flowers and added an extra layer of texture I absolutely loved.
A Glittering Sentiment Front and Center
For the sentiment, I wanted a soft and romantic look, so I used the This Is Big: Love die and cut the word from white glitter cardstock. I placed it right in the center of the floral cluster, letting it overlap both blooms slightly. The glitter cardstock catches the light just enough to stand out without overpowering the soft color palette.
Finishing Touches with Pearls
Once my flowers and sentiment were in place, I added a few flat back pearls scattered around the background, echoing the white gouache splatters. This card feels dreamy and fresh, like spring on a card. The contrast between the delicate pink and the moody navy background makes everything pop just beautifully.
I hope you enjoyed a closer look at how these cards came together. The Into the Blooms: Anemone die set is such a joy to work with—these flowers practically build themselves, and the results are so polished and lifelike. I already have more color ideas in mind, so stay tuned for even more inspiration using this stunning set. Thank you so much to Papertrey Ink for inviting me to share these projects!
Hugs,
Jyoti
