I had so much fun stepping away from the traditional black and purple Halloween palette for today’s projects! I’m featuring the new Halloween Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nichol Spohr for Spellbinders, but instead of using felt, I cut these wonderful large stitching dies from cardstock. The Felt Charming Witch Hat, Felt Patchwork Boo, and Felt Harvest Witch Boot are generously sized, making each one a perfect focal point for an A2 card—and I couldn’t resist turning all three into a fun Halloween banner too.
Witching With Love
For my first card, I used the Felt Charming Witch Hat Etched Dies by Nichol Spohr. I chose a warm orange cardstock for the hat and added an olive green band, then stitched the details with coordinating thread. I love the little moon and star elements included with this design, and I added a touch of gold to bring just a little sparkle to the card.
Because the hat is already such a large statement piece, I kept the background fairly simple with a soft cream panel, subtle texture and black splatters. A few tiny gold stars scattered around the background tie everything together. The pretty scalloped sentiment reading “Witching With Love” overlaps the top of the hat and gives the card a slightly unexpected layout.

Boo to You
My second card features the adorable Felt Patchwork Boo Etched Dies by Nichol Spohr. I kept the ghost crisp white but gave him little teal patches and stitched around the edges in a darker coordinating thread. Those tiny patches give this ghost so much personality!
For the background, I went in a completely different direction with a bright aqua panel covered in white splatters. The cool color makes the white ghost really stand out and shows that Halloween cards definitely don’t have to be dark. A few scattered stars and the little “Boo to You” sentiment finish this clean and playful design.

Halloween Greetings
The Felt Harvest Witch Boot Etched Dies by Nichol Spohr inspired a much warmer, almost vintage fall look for my third card. I cut the large boot from rich brown cardstock and used a warm pumpkin-orange shade for the top. Gold stitching around the boot adds just enough shine without taking away from the earthy color palette.
I layered the finished boot over a green, cream and orange plaid patterned paper. I really love how the plaid instantly gives this card that cozy autumn feeling while still working beautifully for Halloween. The white scalloped “Halloween Greetings” sentiment provides a nice contrast against all of those warm colors.

A Stitched Halloween Banner
After making the cards, I wanted to show another way to use these large stitching dies, so I created a simple Halloween banner featuring all three designs. This might actually be my favorite project of the group!
I created three scalloped panels in kraft, brown and green and added lots of black, white and metallic splatters for a fun distressed look. Each panel holds one of the stitched Halloween characters—the witch boot, Patchwork Boo ghost and witch hat. I kept the same earthy palette throughout so that all three pieces coordinate while still having their own personality.
I punched holes in the panels, added rustic jute tassels and strung everything together with twine. It makes such a cute little piece of seasonal décor and is a great example of how these large dies can go beyond cardmaking.

Halloween Stitching in Unexpected Colors
What I enjoyed most about these projects was experimenting with color. Orange, aqua, brown, olive, kraft and cream still give me that wonderful autumn feeling without relying on the usual Halloween color combinations. And even though these dies are part of the Felt Stitch & Create Collection, I love how beautifully all of those pierced details translate to cardstock.
Whether they become the focal point of an A2 card or part of a handmade Halloween decoration like my banner, these oversized stitched designs offer so many possibilities. I hope these projects inspire you to pull out some unexpected colors, add a little stitching and create your own version of Halloween!
Hugs,
Jyoti
