My Weekly Card Challenge Week 1 : Embrace Change

I created this card as part of my weekly creative challenge to explore fresh ideas and step outside my usual style. This week’s concept called for a bold, uncluttered design featuring one strong focal image, a deep and muted color palette, and a subtle touch of gold. I hope this challenge inspires you to look through your own supplies, try something different, and join me simply for the fun of creating.

A Dramatic Background

I chose a simple black card base to give the design a rich, dramatic appearance. The dark background provides plenty of contrast while allowing the warm colors and metallic details to stand out.

The Spectacular Butterfly

The Poppystamps Spectacular Butterfly became the main focal point. I layered it in mustard yellow, burnt orange, and olive green, adding touches of gold cardstock between the layers. These earthy colors look especially striking against the black background, while the detailed layers give the butterfly beautiful dimension.

A Gold-Embossed Sentiment

I stamped the “Embrace Change” sentiment above the butterfly and heat embossed it in gold. The message felt perfect for a challenge centered around exploring new ideas and allowing my creative style to evolve. The gold embossing also coordinates beautifully with the metallic details throughout the card. The stamp I used is a custom stamping tool from Amazon: Trodat Self Inking Stamp Kit

Framing the Design

I used the Poppystamps Simple Rings die to create the slender gold circle behind the butterfly. The open ring frames the focal image without making the design feel busy. I finished the card by arranging the butterfly and olive-green accents across the ring, then gently lifting the wings to create extra dimension.
