A Garden of Words and Blooms | Cards Inspired by the STC Poet’s Garden Collection

There is something timeless about pairing poetry with flowers. The STC Poet’s Garden Collection from Spellbinders feels especially meaningful because it blends expressive sentiments with delicately detailed florals, allowing each card to feel like a small work of art. For today’s projects, I created three cards that celebrate both beauty and emotion, using a mix of new and previously released dies. Patterned papers from my stash added softness and charm, while ink blending brought depth to the petals. Each floral arrangement was finished with a hot glue gun to give the flowers natural dimension and structure.

Card One: Gentle Gratitude in Bloom

Layered Foundations

For this card, I began by selecting a soft, floral patterned paper from my stash to set a calm and elegant background. I layered it onto a deep blue card base, which instantly framed the design and grounded the lighter tones.

Creating the Clematis Flowers

The Clematis Poet die was the star of this card. I die-cut the petals from pale cardstock and softly ink blended the edges to create subtle shading. This gentle color variation helped the petals look more lifelike and dimensional without overpowering the design.

Adding Depth and Dimension

Once assembled, the clematis flowers were shaped and layered using a hot glue gun. This allowed the petals to sit naturally and gave the flowers a sculpted look that stands beautifully off the card base.

Sentiment with Elegance

I used the Poet’s Garden Sentiment Press + Foil Plate and coordinating dies to create the “Thank You” sentiment. The foiled finish adds a refined touch and ties in perfectly with the elegance of the floral arrangement.

Final Embellishments

To complete the card, I added a few subtle embellishments to balance the design without distracting from the flowers. The result is a graceful thank-you card that feels thoughtful and timeless.

Card Two: Courage in Full Bloom

Soft Patterned Background

This card started with a muted patterned paper from my stash, featuring small florals that add texture without competing with the focal point. The neutral tones created the perfect backdrop for the statement flower.

Building the Peony

The single and double peony dies from a previous Spellbinders release were used to create this lush bloom. Each petal was ink blended to add depth and variation, giving the flower a realistic, layered appearance.

Shaping and Assembly

I carefully shaped each petal before assembling the peony with a hot glue gun. This step really brings the flower to life, allowing the layers to open up naturally and feel organic.

Sentiment as a Statement

The poetic sentiment, created using the Poet’s Garden Sentiment Press + Foil Plate, was die-cut and layered onto a soft panel. Its placement beneath the flower helps anchor the design and draws the eye downward naturally.

Delicate Finishing Touches

A few pearls were added for subtle shine, echoing the softness of the color palette. This card feels calm, reflective, and encouraging—perfect for sharing meaningful words.

Card Three: A Celebration of Art and Nature

Bold Base with Soft Contrast

For this design, I paired a rich blue card base with a pastel floral patterned paper from my stash. The contrast between bold and soft tones adds visual interest while keeping the overall look cohesive.

Wild Violets and Ladybug Details

The Wild Violet and Ladybug die set brought a playful yet elegant feel to this card. I ink blended the petals in varying shades of purple to create depth and highlight each bloom.

Leafy Layers

The green leaves were also lightly ink blended, which helps them stand out against the background and adds balance to the purple florals. Layering the leaves beneath the flowers creates a natural flow.

Sentiment with Artistic Flair

The sentiment, pressed and foiled using the Poet’s Garden Sentiment Press + Foil Plate, adds a literary touch that complements the floral imagery. It feels like a quiet reflection tucked into the design.

Bringing It All Together

The flowers were adhered with a hot glue gun to maintain dimension and structure. This final card feels expressive and artistic, celebrating creativity and nature together.

Final Thoughts

Working with the STC Poet’s Garden Collection was truly inspiring. Each die and sentiment feels thoughtfully designed, making it easy to create cards that tell a story. By mixing new releases with beloved older dies, using patterned papers from my stash, and adding depth through ink blending and dimension, these cards became more than just projects—they became little poetic moments captured in paper. I hope they inspire you to create your own garden of words and blooms.

Hugs,

Jyoti
