Creating this card was a joyful experience, especially with the charming Nordic Swirl Mushrooms die from Poppystamps. I wanted to create a clean and elegant design with a whimsical touch, so I started by die-cutting the mushrooms in red. I chose a glittery red cardstock for one of the mushroom caps to add sparkle and dimension, while the other caps and stems were cut from solid and lightly inked cardstock. The embossed details on these dies give such character, and I layered the mushrooms slightly overlapping to give them a cozy, clustered look.
Embossed Elegance with a Nordic Twist
For the background, I used the Nordic Lacy Plate Craft Die, also from Poppystamps. I ran a white panel through my die-cutting machine with this plate, which added a beautiful lace-inspired embossed texture across the surface. To soften the look and create a space for the focal point, I tore a panel of green vellum from a book my daughter brought me from Peru. The vellum has a soft, almost botanical feel, and its uneven torn edges brought an organic contrast to the crisp white lacy background.
Assembling the Layers
I adhered the vellum panel down the center of the embossed background, leaving the beautiful lace detail visible on both sides. Then, I placed the die-cut mushrooms near the center, using foam adhesive to pop them up and create dimension. The placement was slightly asymmetrical for a more natural, storybook look. A few iridescent sequins were scattered around the mushrooms to mimic dewdrops and add a magical touch of sparkle.
Finishing with a Simple Sentiment
To complete the card, I added a simple “MISS YOU” sentiment from an older foiled sentiment plate. I foiled it on a narrow black strip to ground the design and provide contrast against the soft green vellum. The sentiment sits just below the mushrooms, acting like a little signpost in the forest. This card feels whimsical, warm, and personal-perfect for sending love to someone far away.
