Today I’m sharing a sweet and elegant card that celebrates Nordic charm with a soft and cozy color palette. I combined several of my favorite Poppystamps dies to create this scene — the adorable Nordic Birds of a Feather, the bold Nordic Heart, and the delicately patterned Nordic Floral Burst Background. Let’s dive into the process behind this card!
Crafting the Birds: Nordic Birds of a Feather Die
The stars of this card are the whimsical birds from the Nordic Birds of a Feather die set. This set creates three different bird designs, but for this project, I focused on just one set.
I die-cut the birds from white cardstock and added soft layers of color using Distress Oxide Inks. Ink blending allows you to control the color placement and intensity, giving each bird a unique personality. I love how the inked edges bring them to life while maintaining a clean, Nordic-inspired aesthetic.
Heart of the Design: Nordic Heart Craft Die
For the centerpiece, I used the Nordic Heart die — a three-piece design that can be cut from multiple colors for a gradient effect. I chose to cut the heart from rich red cardstock and slightly separated the three pieces when assembling. This tiny gap adds dimension and clearly shows the die’s layered structure. It’s such a simple technique, but it really elevates the heart.
Subtle Texture: Embossing with a Background Die
Instead of cutting with the Nordic Floral Burst Background die, I used it to emboss a white panel for a soft, textured backdrop. Did you know you can emboss with background dies? Just use a silicone mat and your die-cutting machine’s embossing sandwich!
This subtle technique adds depth without taking attention away from the main elements.
Assembly and Final Touches
With all the pieces ready, I assembled the card by centering the Nordic Heart on the embossed panel. I placed the birds on opposite sides of the heart — one on the top right and the other on the bottom left — creating a gentle diagonal movement across the card.
I decided to keep this card sentiment-free for now, making it perfect for any occasion later on. To finish, I added a few white flat-back pearls for just a touch of elegance and shine.
I love how this card came together — it’s a mix of modern Nordic elements and soft, cozy textures. The versatility of Poppystamps dies allows so much creativity, from traditional die-cutting to embossing with background dies.
